Critical Power Solutions

Active Power designs and manufactures battery-free flywheel uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems and energy storage products for mission-critical power applications worldwide from its headquarters and manufacturing plant in Austin TX.

Data Centers

Active Power’s CleanSource UPS and PowerHouse systems have been optimized for deployment in the most common data center designs. Our systems operate at up to 98% energy efficiency. Further, Active Power systems have been successfully deployed in more than 500 U.S. data centers, including numerous Uptime Institute certified Tier III installments.

Health Care

Active Power CleanSource UPS systems are an ideal fit for the specific demands of health care applications where electrical interruption is not an option. They are proven to reduce system failure risk by 80% versus a legacy UPS with batteries, providing invaluable peace of mind. Frequent power quality incidents and micro-outages are no problem for the integrated flywheel UPS and ride through to generator capability easily complies with NFPA 110.

Manufacturing

Flywheel UPS system provides significant benefits in harsh environments like that of industrial plants. The fact the system can be placed virtually anywhere and in close proximity of the equipment it is protecting is very appealing. Since there are no chemical batteries, the need for strict temperature control is no longer there. At 98 percent efficiency, there are significant efficiency benefits to be gained that over time will lower total cost of ownership compared to traditional battery-based systems.

Transportation

Continuous power is critical in keeping transportation infrastructure running smoothly. Active Power’s products provide compact, energy efficient, and reliable solutions for applications such airports and tunnel lighting.

Broadcasting

Incoming electric power disturbances can easily take a transmitter off the air, resulting in stranded viewers and potential loss in commercial revenue. Fortunately, an integrated flywheel based UPS system like that of the CleanSource® UPS system from Active Power is proven to protect transmitters and master control rooms from costly downtime and to guard transmitters from possible damage due to utility events.

Casino

Even a short power outage can close a casino for hours, costing millions of dollars of revenue and damaging reputation with customers. Active Power UPS systems and modular infrastructure solutions provide improved reliability over traditional solutions, replacing less reliable chemical batteries with predictable flywheel energy storage.
