World first – Using IP-Bus technology from Piller, Uptime Institute awards Tier IV certificate for Data Centre

The world’s first certification to Tier IV of an IP-Bus system has been awarded to colocation provider NEXTDC in Australia.

Australian colocation provider NEXTDC’s B2 data centre in Brisbane has become the first in the country - and the first Asia Pacific colocation data centre - to receive Tier IV constructed facility certification from the Uptime Institute, the world’s leading independent data centre advisory and certification organisation. The accreditation is unique in that it is the first in the world to achieve this certification by use of an N+1 IP-bus system, thereby eliminating the need for inefficient N+N ups systems.

The B2 power solution employs unique IP-bus technology from Piller which affords a combination of fault tolerance and concurrent maintainability without the need for N+N redundant UPS. This is accomplished by a patented ‘Delta-droop’ control of Piller UNIBLOCK UPS and gensets paralleled at the UPS output. Such a solution cannot be equalled by any other current IP-Bus UPS technology.
