High Efficiency UPS System Provides Energy and Space Efficient Redundant Power Architecture to Collocation Facility

AUSTIN, Texas (Oct. 5, 2009) – Active Power, Inc. (NASDAQ: ACPW), inventor and manufacturer of the most energy-efficient critical power systems in the world, today announced that it has deployed a total of 2.4 megawatts of CleanSource UPS (uninterruptible power supply) systems to Data Cave, Inc., a full service collocation datacenter facility based in Columbus, Ind. Data Cave initially deployed two of Active Power’s expandable 600 kVA UPS systems in June 2009. In September, Data Cave added additional modules of high efficiency UPS capacity to double the power capability of each system to 1200 kVA.

“We approach our power infrastructure plan with an eye on the high nines,” said Caleb Tennis, president, Data Cave. “Active Power was a no brainer, knowing our customers demand high efficiency and reliability. Because of its modular product design, we seamlessly doubled the capacity of each UPS system. This enables us to power more mission critical equipment with the same amount of run time. The UPS systems provide ample time for the generators to fire up and provide power to the load.”

“Active Power offers a highly modular UPS system so customers are able to quickly make expansions in the field when more power is required which is one of our key differentiators compared to competitive UPS systems,” said Gary Rackow, vice president, Sales, for the Americas. “Customers are able to add additional capacity as business and IT needs evolve. Besides modularity, mission critical organizations recognize the inherent benefits of the Active Power system and are choosing to deploy our product to reap these benefits which include increased reliability, energy and space efficiency.”

A tier IV datacenter facility, Data Cave is a custom purpose built center designed to withstand large scale natural disasters including tornadoes, floods, earthquakes and thunderstorms. The 84,000 square foot facility has in place completely redundant architecture including cooling, electrical power distribution and networking infrastructure. The facility's multiple data suites are each segregated within the center which provides increased security in addition to key card access, biometric hand scanners and video surveillance.
