Space Efficiency and Reliability Play Role in Customer Selection of Power Infrastructure Equipment

AUSTIN, Texas – Nov.  23, 2009 – Critical backup power systems manufacturer Active Power, Inc. (NASDAQ: ACPW) today announced it has deployed its flywheel based CleanSource® 600 kVA UPS (uninterruptible power supply) system to a mission critical datacenter facility located in Houston, Texas. The facility is operated by a life science company. The system provides both power protection and power conditioning against all types of electrical disturbances to ensure 24/7 uptime.

“Space and reliability were both big issues for the customer,” said Gary Rackow, vice president, Sales, Americas. “Active Power’s UPS technology is extremely space efficient and power dense as compared to a conventional double conversion UPS with batteries. An electromechanical solution versus electrochemical, our flywheel UPS system is also highly reliable – seven times less likely to fail as compared to a battery based system.”
