Jim Clishem CEO and President
Jim Clishem is President and CEO of Active Power and a proven technology executive with expertise in the data center, managed services, telecommunications, software and computer systems industries.
Prior to leading Active Power, Jim was VP Business Development for Peregrine Systems and was CEO and founder of Xodiax, a managed IT services business recognized by Inc Magazine as one of the fastest growing privately held companies in the U.S. He also served as Vice President of Data Services for Broadwing Communications and held various senior roles at MCI, Ericsson, and Tandem Computers.
Jim is a U.S. patent recipient and holds degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Louisville (BSEE, MSEE) and an executive MBA from Southern Methodist University.
John Penver Chief Financial Officer and VP Finance
John Penver is Chief Financial Officer and Vice President Finance, responsible for overall financial operations and management at Active Power. With more than 24 years of financial management experience gained in international, manufacturing and technology environments he previously served as CFO for companies including PerformanceRetail, Inc., Factory Logic, Inc. and Yclip Corporation.
John also served as Vice President of Finance at publicly-traded Silicon Gaming, Inc., a manufacturer of high-tech slot machines, after 14 years with Deloitte & Touche, LLP, one of the world’s largest public accounting firms, in Australia and the U.S.
John is a Certified Public Accountant and a Chartered Accountant and holds a Bachelor of Business (Accounting) degree from Monash University in Australia and an MBA from Santa Clara University in California.
David Perkins Chief Technical Officer
David Perkins is Chief Technical Officer for Active Power and heads the company’s industry-leading technical innovation efforts. He was a key contributor to Active Power’s commercialization of the first battery-free, flywheel-based DC and UPS products.
Prior to joining Active Power in 1996, David was a Research Engineer with The University of Texas at Austin Center for Electromechanics and was involved in numerous electric machine development projects for military and commercial research contracts. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and ASTM International and is a member of ASTM Committee A01 on Steels, and Subcommittee A01.06 on Steel Forgings. He currently holds five patents, with several patents pending.
David holds BS and MS degrees in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at Austin.
Lisa Brown VP Marketing and Sales Support
Lisa Brown leads Active Power´s marketing, sales operations and customer service units with responsibility for integrated marketing plans, product management, marketing communications, public relations and field service functions.
Prior to joining Active Power, Lisa spent 14 years with Broadwing Communications where she held executive positions including Vice President of Marketing, Sales Operations, and Customer Operations. She also ran the company’s General Business Markets Division responsible for over 100,000 customers and $110 million of annual revenue.
Lisa earned a B.S. degree in Business Administration, Finance, from Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania.
Uwe Schrader-Hausmann VP Technical Services
Uwe Schrader-Hausmann serves as Vice President of Technical Services. With more than 28 years experience in the uninterruptible power supply (UPS) market, Uwe has global responsibility for all customer facing technical services functions which include applications engineering, project management, project implementation and customer service functions for the business.
Uwe previously served as managing director of Active Power (Germany) GmbH and the technical director for the company’s EMEA territory (Europe, Middle East and Africa). He has a wealth of practical knowledge of all available technologies in the power quality/management industry and is currently a holder of one U.S. patent and two international patents. Prior to joining Active Power, Uwe worked in various positions at Piller Power Systems GmbH, serving as chief technology officer and quality manager prior to leaving the company.
Uwe earned his Diplom-Ingenieur (German equivalent of a master’s of Science) from The University of Applied Science in Hanover, Germany.
Jim Murphy, I. Eng. VP Sales EMEA and APAC
Jim Murphy is Vice President of Sales for the EMEA and Asia Pacific regions. He is responsible for managing Active Power’s customer relationships and sales growth in Europe, the Middle East, Africa, Japan, Korea and southeast Asia.
A 20-year power industry veteran, Jim previously held technical sales leadership roles for several international divisions of RWE Piller GmbH, part of the RWE Group of companies and Europe’s largest multi-utility. His responsibilities included marketing and sales P&L, high-value solution selling to a global client base, and facilitating post-sale customer support. Jim implemented a team selling approach that enabled improved focus on customer specifications and was instrumental in kick-starting sales of new products in Europe.
Jim holds a degree in Electrical and Electronic Engineering from Liverpool University and is a member of the Institute of Electrical Incorporated Engineers.
Martin Olsen VP Business Development
Martin Olsen serves as the company’s vice president of Business Development. In this role, Olsen leads all global business development activities to help grow Active Power’s product and sales distribution channels.
Olsen brings more than 11 years of global marketing, product marketing and development to Active Power. He served as director, Data Center Group, for Wright Line LLC, a Worcester, Mass. based data center infrastructure firm prior to joining Active Power in early 2007. Prior to that, Olsen worked in the United States and several years overseas working in Munich and Singapore, where he led the product marketing and business development charter for APC-MGE.
A U.S. patent holder, Olsen received his bachelor’s of science in Marketing from the International Business College at Kolding, Denmark. In addition to his degree, he also earned diplomas in Logistics and International Business Law from the International Business College at Kolding, Denmark.
Gary Rackow, P.E. VP Sales Americas
Gary Rackow is Vice President of Sales for the Americas. He is responsible for managing Active Power’s multi-channel sales strategy to drive sales growth and market penetration in North America and Latin America.
He has been a registered Professional Engineer for more than 20 years and is a member of IEEE Industry Application Society (IAS). Prior to joining Active Power in 2006 Gary worked for Piller, Inc., where he held positions such as Vice President of Sales & Marketing, Director Sales & Service, and Vice President Systems Development. He also worked for General Electric for ten years as a product and application engineer for power distribution equipment, motor drives, Uninterruptible Power Systems, and process control.
Gary is a registered P.E. in the state of Georgia, and earned a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn.
Jason Rubin VP Manufacturing
Jason Rubin is Vice President of Manufacturing with responsibility for the manufacture and test of all Active Power products. He also manages the materials and logistics supporting those products.
Jason has 15 years of manufacturing experience ranging from tire production to textiles. Prior to joining Active Power in 2000, he was involved in managing operations, introducing new products and improving manufacturing systems for Windsport Inc in Austin.
Jason graduated with a BS in Industrial Engineering from the University of Oklahoma at Norman.
Karl Schuetze VP Engineering
Karl Shuetze is Vice President of Engineering. He leads the team of engineers and developers responsible for the design and implementation of uninterruptible power supply (UPS) systems for Active Power.
Karl has 15 years of engineering industry expertise, with the last seven years at Active Power as lead development engineer and manager of the Mechanical Systems Group. Prior to joining Active Power, he held engineering and project lead roles at a variety of companies including Advanced System Integration, Inc., McDonnell Douglas Corp., and General Dynamics, Corp. He also served as an officer in the U.S. Army Reserves.
Karl earned his doctorate in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin and a master’s and bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Texas at Arlington and Virginia Tech respectively.
