Jim Clishem CEO and President
Jim Clishem is president and CEO of Active Power and a proven technology executive with expertise in the data center, telecommunications, software and computer systems industries. Prior to leading Active Power, Clishem was vice president of Business Development for Peregrine Systems, an enterprise software company serving the enterprise asset and change management markets, which was acquired by HP in December 2005.
Clishem also founded and served as chairman, president and CEO of Xodiax, a managed IT services business recognized by Inc Magazine as one of the fastest growing privately held companies in the United States. Prior to Xodiax, Clishem was vice president of Data Services for Broadwing Communications and before this served as chief operations officer of ntr.net, Inc. Clishem has also held various senior roles at MCI, Ericsson and Tandem Computers.
A U.S. patent recipient, Clishem earned an executive master’s in Business Administration from Southern Methodist University. He also received master’s and bachelor’s degrees in Electrical Engineering from The University of Louisville.
John Penver Chief Financial Officer and Vice President, Finance
John Penver is chief financial officer and vice president of Finance, responsible for overall financial operations and management at Active Power, having served in this role since March 2005. With more than 26 years of financial management experience gained in international manufacturing and technology environments, Penver previously served as chief financial officer for companies including PerformanceRetail, Inc., Factory Logic, Inc., and Yclip Corporation.
Penver also served as vice president of Finance at Silicon Gaming, Inc., a publicly traded manufacturer of high tech slot machines. Prior to this position, Penver worked for more than 14 years at Deloitte & Touche, LLP, one of the world’s largest public accounting firms in both Australia and the United States.
Penver is a certified public accountant and member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Texas Society of Certified Public Accountants. He is also a Chartered Accountant (CA), belonging to the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia. He holds a master’s of Business Administration from Santa Clara University and a bachelor’s degree of Business in Accounting from Monash University in Australia.
Uwe Schrader-Hausmann Chief Technical Officer and Vice President, Engineering
An electrical engineer by trade, Uwe Schrader-Hausmann serves as chief technical officer, overseeing the company’s technical innovation efforts in the areas of research and development, engineering and technical service and support functions on a global scale. In addition to this role, he also serves as managing director of Active Power (Germany) GmbH.
A holder of one U.S. patent and two international patents, Schrader-Hausmann has more than 28 years experience in the uninterruptible power supply (UPS) market. He most recently served as vice president, Technical Services for Active Power. Prior to this, Schrader-Hausmann was technical director for the company’s EMEA territory (Europe, Middle East and Africa). Prior to joining Active Power, Schrader-Hausmann worked in various positions at Piller Power Systems GmbH, serving as chief technology officer and quality manager.
Schrader-Hausmann earned his Diplom-Ingenieur (German equivalent of a master’s of Science) from The University of Applied Science in Hanover, Germany.
Lisa Brown Vice President, Marketing and Sales Operations
Lisa Brown leads Active Power’s marketing and sales operations units with responsibility for integrated marketing, product management, marketing communications, public relations and sales operations functions.
Prior to joining Active Power, Brown spent 14 years with Broadwing Communications where she held executive positions including vice president of Marketing, Sales Operations and Customer Operations. She also ran the company’s General Business Markets Division responsible for more than 100,000 customers and $110 million of annual revenue.
Brown earned a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Finance from Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania.
Martin Olsen Vice President, Global Channels and Business Development
Martin Olsen serves as the company’s vice president of Business Development. In this role, Olsen leads all global business development activities to help grow Active Power’s product and sales distribution channels.
Olsen brings more than 11 years of global marketing, product marketing and development to Active Power. He served as director, Data Center Group, for Wright Line LLC, a Worcester, Mass. based data center infrastructure firm prior to joining Active Power in early 2007. Prior to that, Olsen worked in the United States and several years overseas working in Munich and Singapore, where he led the product marketing and business development charter for APC-MGE.
A U.S. patent holder, Olsen received his bachelor’s of science in Marketing from the International Business College at Kolding, Denmark. In addition to his degree, he also earned diplomas in Logistics and International Business Law from the International Business College at Kolding, Denmark.
Gary Rackow, P.E. Vice President, Sales Americas
A registered Professional Engineer (P.E.) for more than 20 years, Gary Rackow is vice president of Sales for the Americas. He is responsible for managing Active Power’s multi-channel sales strategy to drive sales growth and market penetration in North America and Latin America.
Prior to joining Active Power in 2006, Rackow worked for Piller, Inc., where he held positions including vice president of Sales and Marketing, director of Sales and Service and vice president of Systems Development. Prior to Piller, Rackow spent 10 years at General Electric as an application engineer for power distribution equipment, motor drives, uninterruptible power systems (UPS), and process control. He is also a member of IEEE Industry Application Society (IAS).
Rackow earned a bachelor’s of science in Electrical Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn in 1975.
Dietmar Papenfort Vice President, EMEA and APAC
With more than 20 years of sales, service and technical experience with power infrastructure equipment, Papenfort serves as vice president of Sales for Europe, Middle East, Africa and Asia. He is responsible for managing Active Power’s customer relationships and sales growth in these regions, expanding on the company’s success in increasing international market share.
Prior to Active Power, Papenfort served as vice president of Sales for Northeast Europe at AEG Power Solutions GmbH, a global leader in power systems and solutions. With a team of 35 sales managers and engineers behind him, Papenfort was responsible for establishing new business relationships with key customers and global account management of certain existing customers. From 2003-2005, Papenfort represented AEG in the European sector Committee of Manufacturers of Electrical Machines and Power Electronics (CEMEP) UPS (uninterruptible power supply) Group. Prior to this and since 1992, Papenfort served in various service, UPS product management, international sales and director roles at SAFT Power Systems/AEG SVS.
Papenfort earned a Diplom-Ingenieur from the University (GH) in Paderborn, Germany.
Jason Rubin Vice President, Manufacturing
Jason Rubin is vice president of Manufacturing with responsibility for the manufacturing and testing of all Active Power products, but also manages the materials and logistics for those products.
Rubin has 18 years of manufacturing experience ranging from tire production to textiles. Prior to joining Active Power in 2000, he was involved in managing operations, introducing new products and improving manufacturing systems for Windsport, Inc., in Austin, Texas.
Rubin earned a bachelor’s of science in Industrial Engineering from The University of Oklahoma at Norman.
